PRIVO Recognized in Australia’s Landmark Age Assurance Technology Trial
PRIVO is proud to announce our recognition as a key participant in Australia’s Age Assurance Technology Trial, a landmark initiative evaluating the real-world performance, privacy, usability, and security of age assurance technologies.
The Trial, commissioned by the Australian Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts and delivered by the Age Check Certification Scheme (ACCS), assessed 48 vendors and more than 60 technologies across sectors including social media, gaming, online retail, adult content, and emerging AI platforms.
At its core, the Trial set out to answer one fundamental question: Can age assurance be done? The evidence from thousands of data points, interviews, and real-world tests makes the answer clear: yes, it can—privately, securely, and effectively.
PRIVO’s Multi-Category Recognition
Unlike many providers recognized in only one area, PRIVO was acknowledged across five major categories, underscoring the breadth, maturity, and scalability of our solutions:
- Technology Readiness– PRIVO achieved the maximum Technology Readiness Level (TRL 9) across multiple categories, confirming deployment readiness in Australia.
- Age Verification 🔗 – Highlighted as a child-privacy–focused provider with strong alignment to international standards.
- Age Estimation 🔗 – Recognized for privacy-preserving practices including minimal data retention, local processing, and clear user consent pathways.
- Age Inference 🔗 – Our PRIVO iD Platform was noted for maturity and flexibility, integrating contextual data and parental consent metadata.
- Parental Controls & Consent 🔗 – PRIVO’s solutions were showcased as effective, secure, and practical tools for engaging parents at key decision points. Our multi-method approach to verifying parental authority (e.g., document upload, credit card verification, parent dashboard) aligned closely with ISO/IEC 29184 verifiability standards, reinforcing the strength of our parental consent infrastructure.
Why This Matters
While PRIVO’s roots began over 20 years ago in U.S. COPPA compliance, our platform has evolved into a jurisdiction-aware global solution, helping companies meet requirements under:
- EU & UK GDPR and Children’s Codes,
- India’s new Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDPA)
- Australia’s new Industry codes, standards and upcoming Social Media Minimum Age law
- A growing number of student digital privacy, state and national regulations worldwide
For companies navigating today’s complex landscape, PRIVO offers a single, trusted partner to deploy scalable, regulator-ready age assurance and parental consent solutions.
“The Trial proves what PRIVO has long demonstrated: privacy-preserving age assurance is real, ready, and essential,” said Denise Tayloe, CEO of PRIVO. “We are proud to have been recognized across multiple categories at the highest readiness level, reinforcing our role as a global leader in parental consent and age assurance. As regulators intensify scrutiny worldwide, PRIVO stands ready to help companies meet their obligations with confidence — while building trust with parents, schools, and policymakers.”
Looking Ahead
Australia’s Social Media Minimum Age law, which takes effect on December 10, 2025, will require platforms to take “reasonable steps” to prevent under-16s from creating or maintaining accounts. Combined with newly registered industry codes and standards, these measures signal a global shift toward stronger protections for children online.
For businesses, the message is clear: age assurance and parental consent are no longer optional. They are essential safeguards — and PRIVO has the expertise, technology, and proven track record to deliver.
Acknowledgment
PRIVO extends our sincere thanks to the Australian Government and the Age Check Certification Scheme (ACCS) for the opportunity to contribute to this important initiative.
