Child Privacy Expert

Location: US or UK based – Home based but with some travel

Reporting to: Chief Privacy Officer and COPPA Safe Harbor Program Manager

We are looking for a subject matter expert in the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act and other child privacy related regulations. This person must be flexible, self-motivated, highly organized with excellent time management skills. The role demands an understanding of the regulation/s and an ability to apply the regulatory requirements in a practical manner to support our hundreds of members to bring their online services (apps, websites, connected toys and platforms) into compliance and stay in compliance. The candidate needs excellent attention to detail and should be process driven. The position is home-based and full time.

Responsibilities:

  • Carry out assessments of our member’s online services for children in relation to key child privacy regulations (COPPA and preferably but not essential, student digital privacy and GDPR as it relates to children).
  • Review assessors reports in relation to the regulations above.
  • Identify risks and controls to manage risks in the online environment.
  • Produce findings and risk reports and escalate issues to agreed standards and formats.
  • Meet deadlines and timeframes for assessments and reports.
  • Communicate with program members, deliver reports and consult on the findings.
  • Report findings to program manager and CPO.
  • Record keeping.
  • Other tasks as required.

Requirements:

  • Proven subject matter expertise.
  • Legal background desired but not required.
  • Ability to demonstrate organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrable experience of online environments including use of mobile apps and websites.
  • Familiarity with packet sniffing software and online tools in general and information security, an asset but not required.
  • Educated to degree level. 

Hours: Full time

Compensation:

Monthly salary to be confirmed on interview. The position is full time employee.

Assessor

Location: US - Home based

Job Description:

We are looking for a flexible, self motivated, highly organized and responsible individual with excellent time management skills. The role demands attention to detail and the candidate should be process driven. The position is home-based. The Assessor will work within the Compliance Team reporting to the Kids Privacy Assured Program Managers.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessments of online services directed at children;
  • Complete assessment forms to agreed deadlines;
  • Review with Kids Privacy Assured Program Managers;
  • Conduct scans of websites, apps and other online and connected devices using open source tools and analyse third party and service providers:
  • Compile reports to agreed format and standards on third party and service provider tracking to agreed deadlines;
  • Review with Service Provider Program Lead.

*Full training will be provided.

Requirements:

  • Ability to demonstrate organizational and time management skills.
  • Computer literate and tech savvy.
  • Demonstrable experience of online environments including use of mobile apps and websites.
  • Familiarity with packet sniffing software and online tools in general and information security, an asset but not required.
  • High school degree required.

Hours: Full Time

Compensation:

Monthly salary to be confirmed on interview. The position is full time under a contractor agreement but may move to full time employee with benefits in the future.

Internships

We are looking for students studying either general law, online privacy practices, children’s online media and/or communications. Successful applicants will possess strong interpersonal skills, including communicating in person, by e-mail and by telephone, customer service and time management, along with attention to detail, plus the commitment to see projects through to 100% completion with 100% accuracy.
