Denise Tayloe
Founder, President and Chief Executive Officer

Denise Tayloe co–founded Privo in early 2001, inspired by the opportunities and challenges of implementing the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) which became effective in 2000. Her vision for Privo is to help consumers manage their digital identities and to create a software solution that would help companies effectively interact with children while in compliance with the federal and state laws. Privo bridges the gap between the competing privacy and commerce interests of consumers and businesses, with a special focus on the protection of kids' privacy.
Denise has become a recognized leader and authority in permission and identity management, has been an invited speaker on the subject at conferences regarding children's privacy issues across the globe, and has been published in the official newsletter of the International Association of Privacy Professionals and BNA. Ms. Tayloe has also conducted private workshops to help companies understand the intricacies of COPPA and how to maintain customer relationships within legal boundaries.
Ms. Tayloe has more than 15 years experience in business development, sales, finance and the development of companies innovating and providing business and technology related services. She was a senior auditing consultant with Arthur Andersen for small business and developing technology companies. She completed her CPA after graduating Magna Cum Laude from George Mason University with a degree in Accounting and Finance.
Carol B. Altarescu
New Business Development
Carol Altarescu was co–founder of EcomWorks Inc. (founded in 1997), one of the leading Affiliate Marketing and Management Companies on the Internet. She served as Executive Vice President and member of the Board of Directors from inception until she left the company in May 2003. During her tenure with EcomWorks, the company had approximately ten clients (including Disneystore.com and Sonymusicdirect.com) and she managed relationships for those clients with thousands of affiliates. Ms. Altarescu has an extensive knowledge of the many market segments of the Internet and the target audiences within each segment, and her relationships extend to Affiliate sites within each of the market segments, including Reward and Loyalty sites, Email marketers, and Coupon sites. Ms. Altarescu holds a BS from Boston University and a Masters Degree in Philosophy of Education from Antioch College.
Paul Gernhardt
Technology and Product Development
Paul Gernhardt in his role as Director of Product Development applies his extensive experience in software and Internet systems to continued development of the PrivoLock software and service. As the former Director of International Technology for America Online, he launched over a dozen online services around the world.
Mr. Gernhardt worked with America Online (formerly Quantum Computer Services) from 1986 to 1999. During his years at America Online, his diverse responsibilities have included coordinating technical and businesses efforts across diverse AOL divisions, departments, joint ventures, cultures and diverse corporations. His specialties have included building and managing highly effective organizations, technology projects, utilizing his unique insights into management, applied technology, human interface and practical design and management of social network environments.
Paul is a private investor involved in a number of technology companies including Privo. He sits on the board of directors for Privo Inc, Sandel Avionics Inc, and Netbase Inc. He also serves as an advisor with Idalis Software Inc. Paul owns and operates a group of companies involved in aircraft-related leasing/leaseback operations and manages a diverse set of investments and expanding business endeavors through The Gernhardt Management Group, LLC.
He has served on the Board of Directors for Sterling Playmakers and YouthWorks Inc. (non–profit organizations), as well as the Board of Special Advisors for HFS Capital Private Equity Fund LLC, and HFS Venture Fund I LLP.
Over the years Mr. Gernhardt has been repeatedly asked to provide broad based mentoring of individuals and organizations in the personal, professional, and religious realms. He is an accomplished private pilot, scuba diver, and performer, as well as an aspiring skier and bicyclist.
Jerry Shipley
Marketing and Sales
Jerry Shipley is focused on marketing, sales and organizational issues for. Jerry has been CEO of a small startup and has core experience in managing, developing, and growing marketing, sales, and business development teams. He has had management leadership positions in Fortune 500 companies General Electric and Sprint and small companies, including five startups and a turnaround. Also as Senior Vice President of Marketing Sales he led a global marketing and sales team for telecom services and has operated at the director level and above for over 15 years.
He began his career in GE's corporate technical marketing program and progressed through the larger companies before switching to the small company environment. He gained experience and knowledge that spanned multiple industries and technologies applied to eleven verticals. Through all of these, the core marketing and sales knowledge of how to identify and capture customers was the constant that enabled him to be effective. The emphasis has been in high-tech business-to-business marketing in domestic and international markets.
