Kid's Privacy and How to Comply With the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA)

Denise Tayloe co–founded Privo with her brother, Ken Tayloe, in early 2001 shortly after COPPA was passed. Their vision was to help consumers manage their digital identities and to create a software solution that would help companies effectively interact with children while in compliance with the federal law. Denise has become a recognized leader and authority in permission and identity management, has been an invited speaker on the subject at conferences related to marketing as well as at Trans Atlantic dialogues regarding children's privacy issues across the globe and has been published in the official newsletter of the International Association of Privacy Professionals. Ms. Tayloe has also conducted private workshops to help companies understand the intricacies of COPPA and how to maintain customer relationships within legal boundaries. Ms. Tayloe has more than 14 years experience in business development, sales, finance and the development of companies innovating and providing business and technology related services.

Prior to co–founding Privo, Ms. Tayloe held roles as a COO/Controller at a real estate development company where she also participated actively in the business development process as the company's sales increased from $12 million to over $60 million per year. She was a senior auditing consultant with Arthur Andersen for small business and developing technology companies. Ms. Tayloe was also a top salesperson for a national real estate lender where she led the region in establishing construction and renovation financing. She completed her CPA after graduating Magna Cum Laude from George Mason University with a degree in Accounting and Finance.

Carol Altarescu was co–founder of EcomWorks Inc., (founded in 1997), one of the leading Affiliate Marketing and Management Companies on the Internet. She served as Executive Vice President and member of the Board of Directors from inception until she left the company in May 2003. During her tenure with EcomWorks, the company had approximately ten clients (including Disneystore.com and Sonymusicdirect.com) and she managed relationships for those clients with thousands of affiliates. Ms. Altarescu has an extensive knowledge of the many market segments of the Internet and the target audiences within each segment, and her relationships extend to Affiliate sites within each of the market segments, including Reward and Loyalty sites, Email marketers, and Coupon sites. Ms. Altarescu holds a BS from Boston University and a Masters Degree in Philosophy of Education from Antioch College.

Paul Gernhardt in his role as Director of Product Development applies his extensive experience in software and Internet systems to continued development of the PrivoLock software and service. As the former Director of International Technology for America Online, he launched over a dozen online services around the world.

Mr. Gernhardt worked with America Online (formerly Quantum Computer Services) from 1986 to 1999. During his years at America Online his diverse responsibilities have included coordinating technical and businesses efforts across diverse AOL divisions, departments, joint ventures, cultures, diverse corporations. His specialties have included building and managing highly effective organizations, technology projects, utilizing his unique insights into management, applied technology, human interface, and practical design and management of social network environments.

Paul is a private investor involved in a number of technology companies including Privo. He sits on the board of directors for Privo Inc, Sandel Avionics Inc, and Netbase Inc. He also serves as an advisor with Idalis Software Inc. Paul owns and operates a group of companies involved in aircraft-related leasing/leaseback operations and manages a diverse set of investments and expanding business endeavors through The Gernhardt Management Group, LLC.

He has served on the board of directors for Sterling Playmakers and YouthWorks Inc (non–profit organizations), as well as the Board of Special Advisors for HFS Capital Private Equity Fund LLC, and HFS Venture Fund I LLP.

Over the years Mr. Gernhardt has been repeatedly asked to provide broad based mentoring of individuals and organizations in the personal, professional, and religious realms. He is an accomplished private pilot, scuba diver, and performer, as well as an aspiring skier and bicyclist.

Mr. Hardin is the founder and President of Hardin & Associates, a recognized leader in the wireless broadband communications industry, providing engineering, market planning and strategic consulting services to the broadband wireless industry. Mr. Hardin is a co–author of the Petition for Rulemaking for Two–Way Operations in wireless cable. In addition, he assisted in co–authoring the Petition for Declaratory Ruling for Digital Operations in wireless cable. He has published numerous articles and is quoted regularly in various media. Mr. Hardin is an internationally recognized expert in the field of broadband wireless telecommunications and is a featured speaker at both domestic and international symposiums and trade conventions. Since 1984, Mr. Hardin has been avidly involved in the wireless and coaxial cable industry. Prior to Hardin & Associates, he held a variety of engineering and marketing management positions at General Electric Company including the Comband Group, specializing in band compression technology.

Mr. Hardin is on the Board of Directors of the National ITFS Association (NIA). Mr. Hardin is a past Board member of the Wireless Communications Association (WCA) and Past Chairman of the WCA Engineering Committee. Mr. Hardin is a past Board member of the Broadband Wireless Association in Europe (BWA), National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Virginia Society of Professional Engineers (VSPE), and Association of Federal Communications Consulting Engineers (AFCCE). Mr. Hardin is actively involved in the Hampton Roads Virginia community including leadership positions with organizations such as the Virginia Stage Company, Virginia Ballet Theatre, Lead Hampton Roads, and Episcopal Diocese of Southern Virginia. Mr. Hardin earned a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree from Georgia Tech and is a licensed professional engineer.

As CFO/Office Administrator at the telecom law firm of Kellogg, Huber, Hanson, Todd & Evans, Lynn Panko–Taylor brings 14 years of experience in financial, operational and administrative management to Privo. Previously, Panko–Taylor was a senior tax consultant for the Enterprise Division of Arthur Andersen. She completed her CPA after graduating with honors in accounting and finance from James Madison University.

Christopher Thornton “Thorn” graduated in 1999 from the Art Institute of Atlanta with a Fine Arts degree specializing in Multimedia. Since the inception of Privacy Vaults Online, Thorn has been an integral part in developing the PrivoLock™ “look and feel”. Thorn is also responsible for Client and Product Integration where he assists in the customization and branding of the PrivoLock™ system to seamlessly integrate into our client’s websites. Currently, Thorn heads up the Privo Customer Service Department interacting with and meeting our clients customers needs.
