Certification & Safe Harbor Program
PRIVO is the first and only infomediary service to be recognized by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC)*. The PRIVO Privacy Assurance Program was approved as a Safe Harbor provider under the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) in August 2004. Online businesses/operators will be deemed in compliance if the operator complies with Commission approved self-regulatory guidelines. The posting of a PRIVO Program Seal signals to consumers, your partners, advertisers, as well as government, that your site meets the COPPA guidelines.

We provide the following seals:

  • US-EU SAFE HARBOR: Consultation & Certification Privacy Assurance Seal Program: This is PRIVO's core seal program working with companies needing consulting and certifying that may include multiple touch points for data collection, use or disclosure through websites, mobile applications and/or all other online platforms.
  • PRIVO APProved™ Seal Program: PRIVO works with individual app developers to make sure they are compliant with COPPA. Whether it's certifying one app or a series of apps, PRIVO's motto is to cater to each app developer's specific needs.
  • PRIVO ADproved™ Seal Program: PRIVO provides companies a way to assess themselves and the ways in which they may gain actual knowledge that they are dealing with minors when their products and services are age-restricted based on regulatory requirements and/or their terms and service. We help these companies by conducting a best practice assessment and devising a strategy to show good faith in their attempt to block interaction with minors outside of receiving parental consent.
  • PRIVO BLOCKED™ Seal Program: PRIVO works with third party platforms, social plug-ins and service providers to deliver best practices and certification standards for relying parties of their services.
